About our community
The Islamic Center Gazi Isa-beg
The Muslim community in southern Luxembourg first organized through the AIC Sud (Association Islamique et Cultuelle du Sud) congregation, which was established to bring Muslims together and facilitate structured religious life. Building upon that foundation, the Islamic Center Gazi Isa-beg was founded in 2020, and it now serves as the central hub for worship, education, and community engagement.
The center bears the name of a prominent 15th-century historical figure from the Balkans, Gazi Isa-beg — an outstanding visionary and builder who established several major cities, including Sarajevo, Novi Pazar, Skopje, and Šabac. He played a vital role in developing waqfs and establishing educational institutions, which were crucial for the spread of Islam among the local population. According to the "Esch 2022" publication, officially issued by the municipality of Esch-sur-Alzette, the Islamic Center Gazi Isa-beg is recognized as an important religious institution in the city and an active participant in its social and cultural life.
The congregation is currently led by President Vahid Durović, while the center's operations are managed by a nine-member board responsible for making all major decisions and organizing the community's overall activities.

About the Imam
Sheikh Zikret ef. Mustafić
The Imam, hatib, and muallim of the Islamic Center Gazi Isa-beg is Hafiz Zikret ef. Mustafić, born in 1981 in Novi Pazar. After moving to Luxembourg in 1999, where he started a family, he continued his journey in Islamic education.
He studied in Damascus, Syria, where he completed his Sharia studies and memorized the Holy Qur'an (hifz), later graduating from the Department of Sharia and Arabic Language in Cairo, Egypt. After finishing his studies, he worked as an imam in Novi Pazar and Berlin.
Alongside his role as imam, he has been active on a national scale since 2023, holding the position of president of the Bosniak National Foundation (BNF) in Luxembourg.
Religious programs and activities
The Islamic Center Gazi Isa-beg organizes regular religious and educational programs aimed at strengthening knowledge and unity within the community.
For the time being, these courses and lectures are conducted exclusively in the Bosnian language and are intended for Bosnian-speaking participants.
Weekly lectures – regular lectures on Islamic teachings, intended for all age groups.
Qur’an circles – learning and proper recitation of the Qur’an in smaller groups..
Friday prayer – the central weekly act of worship, including the khutbah and congregational prayer.
Umrah organization – group Umrah trips with the community are organized every year.
Reading Islamic books – group study and discussion of selected books.
Other educational activities - special lectures, seminars, and programs throughout the year, including Ramadan activities.

The Foundations of Islam and Interfaith Dialogue
Islam is based on belief in the one God (Allah) and the final prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him), as well as on the five fundamental pillars of Islam: Shahada (testimony of faith), prayer, fasting, zakat (almsgiving), and hajj (pilgrimage). These principles form the foundation of a Muslim's religious life.
Living in Luxembourg, a country rich in diverse religions and cultures, the Islamic Center Gazi Isa-beg places great importance on interreligious and intercultural dialogue.
We believe that mutual acquaintance, respect, and open dialogue are key to harmonious coexistence.
In this spirit, members of our Islamic Center have taken part in church visits to introduce Islam, while representatives from other religious communities have likewise had the opportunity to present their own religious beliefs. Such encounters contribute to better understanding and help break down prejudices between different faiths.
